A Fruitful Milestone: Green Ahalia’s Dragon Fruit Success

Green Ahalia has successfully harvested 35 kg of dragon fruit (Selenicereus undatus) from the Chayathara cultivation plot, demonstrating the crop’s excellent yield potential under scientific cultivation practices. The demonstration plot was established on 5th December 2024 with 20 dragon fruit saplings planted over a small area at a spacing of 3 m × 3 m. Among these, a single stone stand supporting four cuttings produced an impressive 35 kg of fruits, highlighting the productivity of well managed dragon fruit cultivation. There are further young fruits yet to be harvested. The successful harvest demonstrates the suitability of dragon fruit cultivation under the agro-climatic conditions of the Ahalia campus and emphasizes the importance of proper spacing, sturdy support structures, and scientific crop management in achieving high yields. The Chayathara plot serves as a live demonstration unit for students, farmers, and visitors, showcasing climate resilient and high value horticultural practices.
