Growing Without Soil: Green Ahalia’s Hydroponics Initiative

Green Ahalia marked another significant milestone in its commitment to sustainable agriculture with the inauguration of Hydroponics Unit on 28 July 2026 near the Green Ahalia Information Centre. The initiative is designed to promote innovative, resource efficient farming practices while strengthening agricultural education and environmental awareness. The Hydroponics Demonstration Unit was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Sriya Gopal, Managing Trustee, Ahalia International Foundation (AIF). The occasion was graced by Mrs. Smitha P. Krishnan, Principal of Ahalia Public School (APS), along with APS teachers and students, whose enthusiastic participation made the event both vibrant and inspiring.

The programme featured an introduction to hydroponics, highlighting the principles and advantages of soilless cultivation, followed by a live demonstration and guided visit to the newly established unit. Participants gained first-hand exposure to modern cultivation techniques that promote efficient water use, enhanced productivity, and sustainable food production. The Hydroponics Demonstration Unit will serve as a dynamic learning platform for students, researchers, farmers, and visitors, fostering awareness of climate-smart agricultural technologies and encouraging the adoption of sustainable farming practices. Through such initiatives, Green Ahalia continues to strengthen its mission of integrating environmental and experiential learning to build a more sustainable future.
