UPAVANA VINODA : One Day National Seminar
Green Ahalia team members Midhun and Anagha, attended a seminar titled “Upavana Vinoda: Medicinal Plants Gardening and Indigenous Ecoscaping” conducted by Hortus Malabaricus Botanical Garden and Research Institute (HMBRI), Cheruthuruthi on 30th March 2026. The day began with a field visit to the aesthetic garden zones of Hortus Malabaricus, guided by Prof. (Dr.) Ajayan Sadanandan. The highlight of the technical session was Dr. Chaithrika Hegde’s (Assistant Professor, TDU) presentation focused on Ecoscaping: Functional Gardens with Native Plants. The session also covered major invasive species in Indian forests, methods to identify native and invasive plants and practical approaches for managing invasive flora.
The afternoon session had presentations by Dr. Lekshmy M. S. on The Quadrant of Upavana Vinoda: Understanding the Four Domains of Arbori-Horticulture and one by Prof. (Dr.) Ajayan Sadanandan on Ayur Udhyanam: Concepts of Various Garden Models that introduced the medicinal relevance of common home garden plants.
