Green Ahalia Haritholsavam 2026 : Celebrating Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development

The recently concluded Haritholsavam 26 (on 6th July 2026) stood different in many ways ranging from participation, content, programme delivery etc. The exhibition of Plant resources was a capsule of our rich diversity and the hidden treasures around us. The section of conservation highlighted the pants in peril pointing to the need for immediate action. Honouring the environment crusader Mr. Rajan is indeed an inspiration for others to follow in his footsteps. The eminent personalities whom we felicitated brought several aspects worth pondering based on their experience. The exhibition on Wildlife photography is a treat to the eyes and each of them luring the audience to the wild with diverse fauna covering reptiles, birds and mammals.The lectures by the chief guest Prof. S. K. Barik and Guest of honour Dr. U. M Chandrasekhara are truly eye-opening by treating contemporary issues with futuristic perception and applicable to our context. The publications released in this festival highlight the biodiversity in the campus and our effort to nurture them. Annual report, Varnabham, birds and butterflies and the revised brochure speak a lot on our recent activity. The short video released also focuses on the relevance of Green Ahalia in Palakkad Gap ecology. Street play by APS students drew attention to the issue of environmental crisis. Several students who participated in different categories of competition walked away prizes amid applause from the audience. The event brought together principals, faculty members, research scholars, students, environmental professionals and nature enthusiasts and offered a platform for interaction among themselves. Haritholsavam 26 showcased Green Ahalia’s commitment to biodiversity conservation, environmental education and responsibility for promoting a greener and more sustainable future.

Haritholsavam 2026 was successfully organized on 6th of July 2026. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. S. K. Barik, Professor and Dean, North-Eastern Hill University (Former Director, NBRI), who highlighted the vital role of plant conservation in achieving a sustainable bioeconomy. The exhibitions on medicinal plants, Rare, Endangered and Threatened (RET) plants, ornamental plants, and a special exhibition of nature and wildlife photography by IMAGE were inaugurated by Dr. U. M. Chandrashekara, Manager, NMPB-RCFC and Former Scientist, KFRI, while the photography exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. R. V. K. Varma, Director, Heritage Village. The programme featured the presentation of the Green Ahalia Green Warrior Award to Mr. N. Rajan, release of the Varnabham Information Bulletin, Birds and Butterflies of Ahalia Campus, the Green Ahalia Annual Report 2025–26, and the Green Ahalia Brochure, followed by prize distribution for competitions, the release of the Green Ahalia documentary video and a street play performed by the students of Ahalia Public School. Technical sessions were delivered by Prof. S. K. Barik on the topic plant conservation for a sustainable bioeconomy and Dr. U. M. Chandrashekara conducted a lecture on carbon accounting and forest sequestration. Both the lectures enriched the programme with valuable scientific insights. The event brought together principals, faculty members, research scholars, students, environmental professionals and nature enthusiasts, reaffirming Green Ahalia’s commitment to biodiversity conservation, environmental education and responsibility for promoting a greener and more sustainable future.
