Attempt towards Conserving a Western Ghats Treasure: Madhuca bourdillonii (Gamble)Lam. at Green Ahalia

Dr. Subhash Chandran of IISc very kindly provided around 25 seeds of Madhuca bourdillonii (Gamble)Lam. an endangered tree species endemic to the Western Ghats, for nursery trials at Green Ahalia. Using these seeds we attempted trials and could successfully germinate in our conservation nursery. The achievement represents a significant advancement in the institution’s efforts to conserve threatened native flora through scientific propagation and ex situ conservation. The healthy seedlings are being maintained under carefully managed nursery conditions to support their growth and establishment. Once established, they will strengthen Green Ahalia’s living conservation collections and serve as valuable resources for restoration programs, scientific research, and biodiversity education.
