TEN LEAFY VEGETABLES FOR KARKIDAKAM

During monsoon season that is Karkidakam in Kerala, spanning from July to August, our body turns frail and delicate. And therefore, it is the ideal time for mental and physical purification and rejuvenation. At this time the body needs to strengthen the immune system and boost up the health and thus to revitalize yourself. Food preparation containing ‘Pathila’” (Group of ten leafy vegetables) will help to achieve this goal. “Pathila” is rich in nutritional and medicinal value, and is very good for maintaining the health of person in a positive way and is a highly affordable alternative to the toxic vegetables too. They are abounding in antioxidants, mineral salts, iron, vitamins, proteins and fibres.

The ten leaves used for consumption vary in different places according to their availability. The most commonly used plants as “Pathila” are as follows. Leaves of any ten of the following plants may be selected for food preparation as per availability.
