Our New garden honouring Professor P. R. Gajurel

Green Ahalia added a new theme garden with species under the Piperales group on 10th August 2026 at main campus. We named the garden honouring Professor P. R. Gajurel who is an international expert on this group of plants. This Garden, was inaugurated by Dr. S. S. Dash, Additional Director and Technical In-charge, Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Kolkata.

To begin with the garden currently has 18 species and 21 varieties of pepper, representing the diversity of Piper.
The inauguration was attended by students of the Ayurveda Medical College Hospital. As part of the programme, Dr. S. S. Dash delivered a brief lecture highlighting the importance of thematic gardens in plant conservation, education and awareness. Dr. K. Haridasan while addressing the gathering highlighted the medicinal and traditional use of popular species of the family and need for conserving such plant resources for posterity.

The establishment of the Professor P R Gajurel Piper Garden marks another significant addition to Green Ahalia’s thematic gardens. The garden provides an important educational tool for students, researchers and visitors to understand the botanical, cultural and medicinal value of the order Piperales.
