Carbon Accounting: Unlocking the Climate Value of Forests

The scientific principles of forest carbon storage and their significance in climate change mitigation were explored in an engaging lecture on “Carbon Accounting – The Science of Forest Sequestration and Quantification” delivered by Dr. U. M. Chandrashekara, Manager, NMPB-RCFC and Former Scientist, KFRI) during Haritholsavam 2026 held on 6th July 2026. The lecture provided a comprehensive overview of carbon accounting, explaining how forests act as natural carbon sinks and the scientific methods employed to estimate and quantify carbon sequestration. Through practical examples, Dr. Chandrashekara highlighted the increasing importance of carbon assessment as a tool for sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation.
