Utleria salicifolia Bedd./ Decalepis salicifolius (Bedd. ex. Hook.f.) Venter
Interesting shrubs endemic. Stem slender with aromatic roots. Used in medicine and for culinary purpose. Critically endangered. Petiole and Follicles are often red tinged at our place. The species has a very restricted distribution in southern western ghats.

Twining climbers Leaves opposite and flowers with purple spotted petals and stout column of gynostegium. Follicles bulgy having flat seeds tipped with silky corona. The plant is also spiritually important for Yagam etc. It is an endangered plant and conserved. This was more frequent on bamboo thorn fence in house holds. As the fencing changed to brick walls rapid dwindling of the population is happening.
