Welcome to Kandal Kazhcha – where salt meets soil

Our thematic garden, Kandal Kazhcha, is a truly unique endeavor. We have successfully cultivated mangrove plants far away from their natural coastal habitat, a challenging task that required us to meticulously recreate both marshy and saline environments. To our delight, we recently observed a stunning bloom in one of our species, Kandelia candel, is a species of mangrove in the family Rhizophoraceae whose attractive flowers have brought immense joy to our visitors. We are deeply gratified by their survival and eagerly hope they will produce fruits and seeds in due course. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Srikumar and Dr. Sujanapal, scientists at KFRI, for their invaluable assistance in procuring the initial seedlings.
