Green Ahalia’s Endeavour in Cultivated Medicinal Plant Species

Green Ahalia has established a dedicated cultivation hub outside the Ahalia campus (Aanayappanchalla) focused on the conservation and sustainable production of valuable medicinal plants. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to eco-friendly agriculture, preservation of traditional healing systems, and the protection of biodiversity.

The cultivation unit hosts a diverse range of carefully selected medicinal species, each recognized for its therapeutic importance in both traditional and modern healthcare practices. The cultivated plants include:

  • Ipomoea mauritiana -Palmuthukku
  • Alpinia calcarata -Chittaratha
  • Abrus precatorius -Kunnikkuru
  • Adhatoda zeylanica -Adalodakam
  • Holostemma ada-kodien -Adapathiyan
  • Asparagus racemosus -Sathavari
  • Indigofera tinctoria -Neelayamari
  • Ipomoea muricata -Nithyavazhuthana
  • Sesbania grandiflora -Agathicheera
  • Withania somnifera -Aswagandha
  • Rauvolfia serpentina -Sarpagandha
  • Acorus calamus -Vayambu
  • Sida alnifolia – Kurunthotti
  • Abelmoschus moschatus- Kasthuri Venda

These species are cultivated using environmentally responsible practices to ensure their quality, efficacy, and long-term sustainability. The harvested medicinal plants are supplied to the Ahalia Medicinal Manufacturing Unit (AMMU), supporting the production of herbal formulations and value-added healthcare products.

Through this initiative, Green Ahalia not only strengthens the supply chain for herbal medicine production but also enhances awareness about the importance of conserving medicinal plant resources. The effort stands as a model for integrating traditional botanical knowledge with modern sustainable practices, contributing significantly to both public health and environmental wellbeing.
