Piper longum

Piper longum belonging to family Piperaceae, is a perennial creeping undershrub with high commercial value. It is commonly known as Thippali or Pippali. The plant exhibits a creeping or procumbent nature. The perennial stem is rooting at nodes when they touch soil. The leaves are prominently veined, and the base is cordate or unequal. This dioecious plant has longer and slender male spikes and shorter and stouter female spikes. One of the remarkable traits of long pepper is its ability to flower throughout the year.
P. longum is cultivated for its fruits, and roots which is usually dried and used in the preparation of several ayurvedic preparations and home remedies thus there is good market for the produce. They are suitable to grow in partial shade. the population of the species in wild is depleting and thus Green Ahalia is engaged in production of planting stock and cultivation.
